As everyone is aware, auto accidents may cause serious injury. Among the injuries are those to the back. Broken bones and spinal cord injuries are among the injuries; multiple fractures may sometimes occur.

Among the most common causes of severe injuries, auto accidents affect many facets of human health, including fractures and shattered bones. Wisconsin citizens should take care of themselves and drive carefully.

In order to prevent deterioration throughout the healing process, it is also essential to understand the many types of fractures that can arise from auto accidents, their severity and swelling, and the appropriate treatment for each. It is essential that if you are a car accident victim, you reach out to Dolan Dobrinsky Rosenblum Bluestein and get the compensation they deserve.

Common Types of Fractures Following Car Accidents

1. Greenstick fractures:

A greenstick fracture or bending fracture is an incomplete fracture where the cortex buckles or bends. Although greenstick fractures can be very painful, they are less challenging to treat than more complicated fractures. This is because such fractures mostly heal with the use of a cast or splint to immobilize the affected limb for a short period.

2. Compound fractures:

Compound fractures, also referred to as open fractures, are accompanied by the bone coming out through the skin, which makes them more prone to infection than skin tears. Open fractures are usually associated with a high degree of impact, hence the high likelihood of obtaining one after an accident.

3. Comminuted fractures:

A fracture when the bone is broken into numerous bone fragments is referred to as a comminuted fracture. Most of these fractures require surgical repair as the fractures are in so many pieces; usually, the fragments are either pinned or plated back together.

4. Bone fractures:

Due to the extendible seat belts used in cars, the spinal cord and head regions become the most affected body parts during accidents.

Spinal cord fractures may vary from slight compression fractures up to more complicated and dangerous injuries like fractures of the burst type, which come in contact with the spinal cord and could cause paralysis.

5. Fractured pelvis:

In many cases of car accidents resulting in any side impact, it is common for patients to incur a fracture of the pelvis circumference. Such fractures are potentially fatal because there is a lot of internal bleeding that goes on, and several surrounding organs get injured.

6. Broke ribs:

It is common for rib bones to be fractured in case of a motor vehicle crash, mainly because of the impact of the seat belt or with the steering wheel. However, rib fractures are considered quite painful.

How Do Broken Bones Result from Accidents?

Car collisions entail high speeds, impacts, and motion arrests that subject passengers or any other occupants to extreme force. As much as the human body can withstand an impact, when it undergoes severe impact damage, it may start to malfunction in some areas, such as the arms, legs, ribs, and upper trunk.

Based on the body’s surface area and the direction in which the damage occurs, this type of stress can cause a variety of fractures. An illustration of this would be the deployment of airbags, which are known to induce stress in the event of an automobile accident.

Airbags can result in fractures, particularly in the arms and wrists, which people often grasp during an impact, despite their intended purpose of protecting passengers from severe injuries.

Wrapping up!

Fractures occasioned by vehicle accidents are among the most common fractures seen today, with some, for instance, breaking bones and even threatening to end lives. It is essential that you be able to protect your rights against any possible exploitation. A personal injury lawyer can make sure that you, as a victim, get the opportunity to fight back and defend yourself.
