Many people’s closets aren’t complete without a pair of low-top sneakers. They are ideal for daily wear due to their adaptability, comfort, and style. However, if you wear your beloved low tops often, maintaining them clean and in good condition might be a real chore.

With the right techniques and tools, you can keep your low-top sneakers looking fresh and extend their lifespan. In this article, you will learn how to clean and maintain your beloved low tops sneakers.

Gather Your Supplies

Ensure that you have all the required materials on hand before you begin cleaning your low-top sneakers:

  • Mild detergent or sneaker cleaner
  • Soft-bristled brush or toothbrush
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Water
  • White vinegar (optional)
  • Sneaker protector spray (optional)

Cleaning will be a breeze with these supplies on hand.

Remove Laces and Insoles

Take your shoes off by first removing the insoles and laces. You may clean them completely and leave no trace of dirt or grime by following this method.

Brush Away Surface Dirt

Use a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush to gently brush away any surface dirt or debris from your sneakers. But, you should be careful not to scrub too hard, as this could damage the material. Also, pay close attention to the seams and crevices where dirt tends to accumulate.

Prepare Cleaning Solution

Mix a small amount of mild detergent or sneaker cleaner with water to create a cleaning solution. If your sneakers are particularly dirty or stained, you can add a splash of white vinegar to help break down tough stains.

Spot Clean

Dip the brush or toothbrush into the cleaning solution and gently scrub any stained or dirty areas on your sneakers. You should pay close attention to areas like the toe box, outsole, and midsole, where dirt tends to accumulate the most. Also, before scrubbing, give the cleaning solution a few minutes to sit, especially for tough stains.

Wipe Down

Use a microfiber cloth dampened with water to wipe down the entire surface of your sneakers. This process will remove any remaining dirt or cleaning solution and leave your sneakers looking fresh and clean. Make sure to wring out the cloth well to avoid leaving excess water on your sneakers.

Air Dry

Let your sneakers dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. You should avoid using heat sources like hairdryers, as they can cause damage to the materials. Also, stuff you should stuff your shoes with paper towels or newspaper to help them retain their shape as they dry.

Reassemble

Once your sneakers are completely dry, reinsert the insoles and laces. Your low top sneakers are now clean and ready to wear.

Maintaining Your Low Top Sneakers

Cleaning your low-top sneakers is just the first step in keeping them looking great. To maintain their appearance and prolong their lifespan, you can follow these tips:

  • Spot clean stains as soon as they occur to prevent them from getting in.
  • Avoid machine washing or drying your sneakers, as this can damage the materials and affect their shape.
  • Rotate between multiple pairs of sneakers to give each pair time to air out and prevent odor buildup.
  • Store your sneakers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and discoloration.
  • Consider using a sneaker protector spray to repel water and stains and keep your sneakers looking newer for longer.

Keep Your Kicks Fresh

Take a little more effort to keep your beloved low-top sneakers in pristine condition. You can extend the life of your sneakers and keep them looking great with the correct methods and consistent maintenance. After a good cleaning, you may confidently slip on your sneakers and take on the world.
